Introduction
Microprobes Floating Hat Pin Microelectrodes are a unique electrode design that are typically used for chronic recording or stimulation studies in which only a few electrodes are required. However, they have also been used for acute procedures providing stable recordings because of their ability to essentially float on the brain remaining stable as the brain is moving due respiration. This allows stable single-unit recordings, especially from shallow regions of the cortex.
Floating Hat Pin Microelectrodes are available in Tungsten, Platinum/Iridium and Pure Iridium metal, and are insulated with a thin film of vapor-deposited parylene-C. Each electrode is etched to a fine taper and tipped using a proprietary process to a specific impedance value.
