FMA Vacuum Insertion Tool
Vacuum Insertion Tool - Model VPI-002

The model VPI-002 FMA Vauum Insertion Tool has been designed to allow straight forward and easy insertion of the FMA into tissue. It can be used with any commercial micro-drive system. The finely ground 16 gauge stainless steel cannula used to pick up and hold the FMA substrate can be mounted to most microelectrode holders or micro-drive electrode assembly clamping devises. The FMA insertion tool utilized a vacuum pump system designed to provide sufficient suction in order to allow slight manipulations of the FMA substrate around the tissue insertion site. It is recommended that the FMA be inserted very slowly in order to minimize dimpling of the cortex. It incorporates a "wand" that will allow the FMA substrate to be released without having to turn off the vacuum pump. A stand is provided to hold the wand near the surgical field. The wand and stand may be gas sterilized along with the Tygon tubing leading from the wand to the stainless steel cannula, which is used to pick up the FMA substrate. The Tygon tubing and stainless steel cannula may be autoclaved if that is preferred. However, it is not recommended to autoclave the wand.
